Riverside Labs Celebrates Cornerstone Ceremony in Berlin
At Berlin’s Nordhafen, the cornerstone has been laid for Riverside Labs, the future home of the Berlin Center for Gene and Cell Therapies. Within two years, the new building developed by IQ Spaces is expected to host up to 20 startups, offering state-of-the-art labs, offices and a GMP-certified manufacturing facility under one roof. Senior representatives from Bayer, Charité, the Berlin Institute of Health and Berlin’s political leadership attended the ceremony, underlining the ambition to establish a leading European ecosystem for innovative gene and cell therapies and to accelerate the transfer of groundbreaking research into patient care.

Berlin has officially designated the Health Innovation Quarter Berlin‑Mitte as a new Zukunftsort, strengthening the ecosystem in which the Berlin Center for Gene and Cell Therapies operates through close collaboration between Bayer AG and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
The new innovation district connects leading research, clinical expertise, and industry along the full health‑innovation value chain, creating ideal conditions for advancing cutting‑edge therapies from research into practice.
As part of this future location, the Berlin‑Mitte health innovation ecosystem further reinforces Berlin’s international visibility and attractiveness in fields such as personalized, gene‑ and cell‑based medicine.
