Our aspiration.
WE IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT SUFFERING.

Gene and cell therapies are the stepping stone. Medical progress over the last 200 years has been breathtaking. Yet still, for many diseases, medical and pharmaceutical sciences have no sufficient answer. Some affect many, as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, and some affect few, as Huntington’s disease. The sorrow caused to the patients and their families remains the same.

Creating positive patient impact.
Nature is not perfect. Gene and cell therapies provide, for the first time in history of humankind, the opportunity to correct genetic defects that cause diseases, on a cellular level. These groundbreaking methods could prevent, halt, or even reverse individual conditions. The ultimate impact are personalized solutions to health conditions with few or no effective treatment options today.
From bench to bedside.
Gene and cell therapie can unfold their full potential only when made available to those in need: the patients. Clinical trials are the essential stage to prove safety and effectiveness before a new therapy can be approved by the authorities. The overall trend shows a significant increase worldwide in both clinical trials and GCT approvals in the last ten years. Investment dynamics are especially high in North America and Asia Pacific, challenging Europe to step up the game.

Together, we exceed expectations. And lead by example.
Bayer and Charité, as the founding partners of the incubator together with the BIH at the Berlin Center for Gene and Cell Therapies, are dedicated to advancing European excellence in gene and cell therapies to the next level. The combined expertise from academia and industry, along with our widely established networks, create a hub that is unmatched in Europe – an ecosystem where start-ups thrive with their innovations.

Because every life matters.
“Until now, for those of us living with a degenerative condition, the horizon for new and truly innovative interventions has seemed a distant reality. With the creation of the Berlin Center for Gene and Cell Therapies, I celebrate a new era of hope, marking a paradigm shift in treatment. My deepest gratitude goes to all those who dedicated to bringing unique biological interventions within reach.”
